Pathway One: Pre-Apprenticeship Courses

If you like ‘hands on’ learning then a pre-apprenticeship course could be for you! These courses involve the completion of a work-related learning qualification, an extended work placement and the sixth form enrichment programme, including a GCSE resit in Maths, English and Science where required.

There are a wide range of pre-apprenticeship courses on offer, ranging from uniformed public services to bricklaying to beauty therapy and childcare, from Business Studies to animal care... to name a few! Students who choose to study a pre-apprenticeship programme do so through Tor Bridge High and, in some instances, a partner training provider or college. Courses are available from entry level through to level 3.

If students choose to study a pre-apprenticeship course, they will be taught both at Tor Bridge High and also off site, by one of our partner colleges, for at least two days per week. Students will also be required to complete an extended work experience placement for two days per week and will have one or two days at Tor Bridge High completing activities from the enrichment programme, including GCSE resit courses.

Students have a dedicated Tutor at Tor Bridge High who will visit them at their college and whilst they are on their work experience placements. Students will also experience an enhanced induction process and spend time at their chosen college before the start of their studies to ensure that they have chosen the correct course and that they are able to access their chosen career.

These courses help students to develop their work-based knowledge whilst learning the skills and qualities required to succeed in a particular trade or industry. Past students have gone on to study degrees at university in their chosen field, gained a higher level apprenticeship and even started their own business!
